Whirlwind Weekend

Quick and painless - that's pretty much how I'd describe it! The Great Truck Exchange of 2007 was over and done with in about 20 seconds and I'm not even exaggerating. The Ex handed over the original signed agreement we made, I handed over the keys and the scourge of my existence, said a chirpy and overly-cordial "Hello!" to his girlfriend which was returned with only a dirty look, and that was that. I spent the rest of the day making sidelong glances at the World's Cutest Irishman and was repeatedly stunned at how lucky I am.

Sean and I spent the day meandering about the malls of Denver and cramming in as much time as we could with family. It was an entirely way-too-short visit, as I would have liked to have had more time with everyone and for Sean to have met my other cousins, but we are planning on making a trip to Denver again soon. Well, maybe after our chances of getting massive amounts of snow dumped on us are a bit minimized, seeing as how the weather was a little on the NOT FUN side. As a complete fluke, my stepmom Sonjah ended up being in Denver because her mom has been in the hospital, so even though it was under less-than-ideal circumstances, I was incredibly happy to see her and even more happy that she was able to meet Sean. When it comes to introducing him to any friend or family member, I can't help but feel like a little kid who has been working diligently on a crayon masterpiece and then pins it up on the refrigerator it out with a very proud "Look what I did! Look what I've accomplished!" I am just so proud to be with him, as he is one of the most remarkable and genuine people I have ever known in my life and I am deliriously drunk on happiness when I am with him. When you go around feeling like that all of the time, you just kinda want everyone to know why. Sonjah absolutely loved him and they got along great, which means a lot to me for many reasons, not the least of which is that she is the closest he will ever get to meeting Dad. My cousins hit it off well with him and we all stayed up talking late into the night on Friday, which was also really great, and we are excited to see them again when they come and visit everyone over here on this side of the state next month.

The best part of the weekend was that my friend since high school that I had wronged so terribly in May of last year called me. After many months of silence and two inadequate apology letters from me around the holidays, she called me. I honestly couldn't believe that it was her for about the first ten minutes of our conversation, and we ended up talking for almost an hour while Sean busted in and out of the mall stores and picked up a few new clothes. It was primarily a catch-up conversation, a little formal and a little polite, but it was a start. A start that I am so incredibly grateful for, and a chance to reconnect which I fully understand that I did not deserve. I cried a little at the end and tried hard to bring-up and yet avoid The Incident that caused us both so much grief, and she graciously passed over it with a, "Well, I don't like being mad at people." Which works out great for me, since I don't really thrive on pissing people off or hurting their feelings, both of which I did to her. Everything has certainly not been swept under the rug, and while it seems that she may be on her way to forgiving me, I know that she will not forget and that I will have to work very hard to regain her trust and friendship. I am fortunate that it appears that I will be given that chance.

Go out and find yourself an Irishman immediately. They truly are very lucky.

What about and Irishwoman? See, my Brian is lucky and he doesn't even realize it! My best friend (Kristine aka Krishizzle) and I are pretty much over for no reason that I can exactly put my finger on. It's been a very painful ordeal and even though it's been like 6 months, I still think about her daily and I've yet to remove her from my #2 speed-dial slot coming in behind the ever-important voicemail. So glad to hear things might turn around for you. I am hoping the same for myself.
